Helsinki World Village Festival: Barbara Hendricks gives voice to refugees
(Stockholm) World renowned soprano and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Barbara Hendricks will perform in support of refugees at this week-end’s World Village Festival in Helsinki.
Ms Barbara Hendricks, star attraction of the 'Helsinki World Village Festival', is UNHCR’s longest serving Goodwill Ambassador. Since 1987, she has communicated the message of respect and compassion for refugees in a uniquely powerful way. She gives a voice to refugees, who are often victims of forgotten humanitarian crises and negative stereotyping. Working from the heart, Barbara Hendricks has used her talent and fame to fund-raise and lobby for refugees during meetings with world leaders as well as the general public.
Barbara Hendricks, who since 1993 has lived in Stockholm, Sweden, will give a performance of classical music mixed with jazz. She will be accompanied by two professional Swedish top jazz musicians, Magnus Lindgren (saxophone, flute and clarinet) and Mathias Algotsson (piano), who also have performed with Ms Hendricks at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Light design will be by Ulf Englund.

Interview - Saturday 24 May 2008 at 17.30 in the Ateneum Hall - Barbara Hendricks will be interviewed by Finnish TV-journalist Jyrki Saarikoski about refugee affairs. Open to all!
